Many Christians are now observing the Church Season of Advent as they prepare to celebrate Christmas. Advent is four weeks prior to Christmas. Advent is a time when we remember and anticipate God's coming to humanity through the birth of Jesus, through everyday life and the scriptures and through God's arrival at the end of time. In preparation for the celebration of God's advent, Christians are called upon to search their hearts and admit to God those things that may be detracting from their relationship with God. Also, it is an opportunity to be reminded to open one's life to the love of God that is manifested through the gift of Jesus Christ.
In addition to the ways that the secular world observes the Advent and Christmas seasons with its decorations, parties and gift exchanges, I encourage you to participate in some church activities such as worship, Christmas caroling, reaching out to those in need, and having times of individual or family devotions. May your Advent be a blessed one as we prepare to receive the Christ Child once again into our hearts and lives.
