The Taize Community began in 1940 in Taize, France as a community of both Catholics and Protestants that focused on reconciliation. Brother Roger was the founder of the Taize Community. He came from a Protestant tradition, but he had a vision of a community of brothers that existed to bring reconciliation to the world. Thousands of young adults travel there yearly to participate in the community and its contemplative worship. Taize worship is known for its easy and meditative music. The songs are sung as prayers that encourage a time of centering upon God and God's peace. Churches around the world have incorporated into worship and prayer services this mantra-like music.
The Season of Advent is the perfect time to enter into contemplative prayer, as a way of centering ourselves upon the presence of God, in the midst of the time of year that can become harried and sometimes troublesome for some people. You are invited to experience a prayer service in the Taize tradition at the First United Methodist Church of Kosse on Sunday, December 3rd at 4:00 PM in the sanctuary.
