The beginning of the school year is always an exciting time! School supplies must be prepared. School clothes often need to be purchased and readied. The daily routine must be adjusted after a very different summer schedule. New teachers are met. New school assignments and challenges are faced.
Most Christians believe that education is a very important and beneficial thing for children and youth. It is living out the commandment "to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind." (Luke 10:27) God has given us minds so that we can learn and expand our horizons. Our minds are wonderful gifts that are not to be squandered, no matter what our age.
In addition, I encourage parents and grandparents to help their children and grandchildren to live out other parts of the commandment "to love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul." Just as an education about reading, writing, history, math, and science is very important, so is learning spiritual things. Most parents need assistance teaching their children about the truths from the Bible and the value of living one's life based on Christian principles. Let's face it, we live in a world that is often not supporting these concepts! I encourage parents and grandparents to bring their children and grandchildren not only to worship on Sundays, but also to religious education classes. Most churches provide these opportunities for all ages, sometimes during Sunday School on Sunday mornings or maybe on a weeknight, and are happy to support raising your children in a Christian environment.
