We have had our Christmas gatherings with family and friends. The Christmas food has been devoured. The Christmas cards and gifts have been opened. We now find ourselves at the beginning of a new year. As we do, may we give thanks to God for the joys we experienced in the past year and may we also give thanks to God for the sorrows God has helped us to face.
We may need to lay to rest the mistakes, sins, or missteps we have taken and ask God for forgiveness and a new start. We may need God to give us grace to offer forgiveness and hope for the pain we have suffered from other people or our circumstances.
May we dedicate this new year, 2016, to the glory of God. May we strive to offer the best of ourselves to God and for the benefit of others. I encourage you to begin the new year with a renewed dedication to God and God’s church. Commit yourself and your family to regular attendance at worship so that our focus may be on the things of God. Have a blessed new year.
