Rita's reflections for may

I think sometimes people think that the Church should be perfect.  It was, after all, created by God to be the bearer of God's message through Jesus Christ.  However, I think sometimes our expectations for the Church are

faulty.  We forget that the Church is composed of sinful people, redeemed by God, yes, but sinful.
I recently read an article by Erica Willis, who has been on several church staffs, which rang true for me. She entitled her article, "I Got Hurt By Christians:  Here's Why I Didn't Give Up on the Church and You Shouldn't Either."  She writes, "Church is the ugliness of sin, and the breathtaking sight of perfection...It's wading through the emotions of those who hurt you, that gossip about you, that scar you, to see your faith through to the other side.  The church isn't perfect...That's because it's made of us...I have mentally quit the church more than once...But in all its ugliness, the church has also been my home...It celebrates when I win and cries when I lose...I am sorry if you have been hurt by the church.  I am sorry if you are in the midst of that pain right this moment...Dear friend, we must not give up on the Church.  Jesus didn't.  We shouldn't. "

In all our frailties as humans, as the Church, we acknowledge that Christ lived, died and rose again for the Church, for us.  Accept God's grace and join other imperfect Christians at Church.  You may just happen to receive the very word from God you need to hear.
